Daizen Maeda Suspension Conundrum: Celtic Predicted Lineup vs Aston Villa for January 29

Celtic play the final game of their Champions League campaign on Wednesday night, with qualification into the play-off rounds already secured. Should they defeat Unai Emery’s Aston Villa, they have an outside shot at automatic qualification into the last 16 as one of the eight seeded teams. However, after Daizen Maeda’s suspension last week plus the exit of Kyogo to Rennes, the Hoops have a shortage in forward areas. Here at Last Word on Football, we provide the solutions with our Celtic predicted Lineup.

Celtic Predicted Lineup vs Aston Villa

How Celtic Have Lined up Recently

On Wednesday night, Brendan Rodgers picked the same eleven that we predicted at Last Word on Football.

Kasper Schmeichel played in goal, with Alistair Johnson, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Auston Trusty and Greg Taylor in front of him.

Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate and Arne Engels formed a midfield three. Meanwhile, Nicolas Kuhn, Kyogo and Daizen Maeda completed the front line.

Celtic Recent Form and Tactics

The Champions of Scotland were afforded a week’s break after the Dundee game at the weekend was called off due to the damage of storm Eowyn.

It means that Celtic’s most recent game was a narrow 1-0 win over bottom placed Young Boys. It may have been narrow in score, but it was anything but in performance. Rodgers’ side has three goals disallowed, meanwhile, Arne Engels missed from the spot in an overall frustrating first half.

Villa however, will be a different task altogether. Emery’s men have physicality, pace and diversity in build up. Celtic will likely play a 4-4-2 out of possession and a quick counterattack game in any other situation. Should the Hoops try an aggressive 4-3-3 out-of-possession build up it could get rather ugly.

Injuries to Consider

James Forrest remains out however Celtic have suffered a major blow with Carter-Vickers unavailable for selection after picking up a minor knock last week.
