Aston Villa Predicted Lineup vs Celtic for Champions League First Phase Finale

How Aston Villa Have Lined-up Recently

With John McGinn having been fit enough for a return to the matchday squad against West Ham, Unai Emery will have thought things were looking up as they went in search of their first win since January 15.

The Spaniard made just one change from his side’s defeat to Monaco as Jacob Ramsey came in for Emi Buendia. Emi Martinez started in goal, with Matty Cash, Ezri Konsa, Tyrone Mings and Lucas Digne in front of him. Boubacar Kamara and Youri Tielemans started in midfield with Morgan Rogers, Ramsey, Leon Bailey and Ollie Watkins in attack.

The West Ham match was a tough one to take for Villa in the end – in more ways than one. Ramsey opened the scoring in the first half after eight minutes with a nice low finish past Alphonse Areola, but Villa’s inability to kill the game off came back to haunt them when on 70 minutes, Emerson equalised for the Hammers with a close-range header back across goal following an Edson Alvarez delivery.

The game ended one-apiece and as well as dropping another two points, Villa’s already-thin centreback roster took another hit when Tyrone Mings left the field in the first half with what looked like a nasty knee injury. While he was able to walk off the field, it was a sad sight considering his history with such setbacks. After the match, he reassured fans that all was well but he is now expected to be out for yet another spell of games.

Aston Villa Injuries to Consider

With Mings now joining Pau Torres on the treatment table, Emery now has the unfortunate selection headache as he attempts to figure out who to pair alongside Konsa in central defence. Onana remains out with a thigh injury, while Ross Barkley’s lower leg problem means he is unlikely to face the Scottish giants.
