How Aston Villa Have Lined-up Recently

Aston Villa enter the West Ham match after a tough evening in the Champions League against Monaco on January 21, as they looked to keep pace with the top eight in the competition.
It was Monaco that took all three points on Tuesday evening, with defender Wilfried Singo converting from close range early in the first half to score the only goal of the game to put them level on points with Villa going into the final Champions League matchday next week. Perhaps the English side felt the effects of their efforts that saw them rescue a point against Arsenal after being 2-0 down three days prior (January 18), but thankfully they still remain in a good position to end the first stage of the Champions League in the automatic qualification spots.
This two-match winless run for Villa is their joint-second worst run since they lost three and drew two games between November 6 and December 1, but against West Ham this weekend, they will hope for a change in fortune with the Hammers losing two and winning one in their last three games under the new management of Graham Potter.

Villa will continue to be without Ross Barkley (calf) and key centre-back Pau Torres, who remains out with a foot injury. Emery has one less injury to think about now though, with Diego Carlos – who was also out with a foot injury – having completed a permanent move to Fenerbahce on Thursday.  A positive for Villa though is that John McGinn is in line for a return after missing the last four games with a thigh problem. Amadou Onana is the latest casualty and will be out for a while after suffering a hamstring injury against Arsenal.
