Team News, Form and Prediction
Oxford took the lead in Devon but eight changes and a lack of spark from the bench meant the U’s were unable to mount a comeback against their League One opponents.
As for Plymouth, they began life under Miron Muslic – who was watching from the stands – with a 1-0 win at Premier League outfit, Brentford. It was a first away win of the season for the Pilgrims.
Prior to that, they had picked up two draws since a 2-0 defeat against the U’s at the backend of December, but remain without a league win in 11.
Oxford have three wins and a draw from Gary Rowett’s four league games in charge, with one of those a first away win of the season, and will be hoping for a response following their cup exit at the weekend.
Plymouth have lost just twice at home this season, winning four and drawing five from their 11 fixtures at Home Park.
Tyler Goodrham was sent off in that FA Cup fixture, meaning he will miss the trip back to Devon. Cameron Brannagan, Elliott Moore and Mark Harris are all sidelined, while Owen Dale also missed the trip through injury. However, there was a return for Peter Kioso and Przemyslaw Placheta.
Plymouth are without Muhamed Tijani, Ryan Hardie and skipper, Joe Edwards. Top scorer Mustapha Bundu made a return from the bench at Brentford.
Oxford won the reverse fixture at Grenoble Road but had lost their previous four meetings against the Pilgrims. Their last win at Home Park came in December, 2020.
Predicted line-up: Jamie Cumming, Greg Leigh, Ciaron Brown, Sam Long, Peter Kioso, Will Vaulks, Cameron Brannagan, Matt Phillips, Ruben Rodrigues, Przemyslaw Placheta, Dane Scarlett.
Prediction: Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Oxford United
