Arsenal Predicted Lineup vs Newcastle United for EFL Cup Semi-Final First Leg

Arsenal host Newcastle United as they look to reach their first EFL League Cup final since 2018. With kick off at 20:00 GMT, this is set to be a hotly contested affair, with both sides unbeaten in their last five league matches. Here is our Arsenal predicted lineup vs Newcastle United.

How Arsenal Have Lined-up Recently

David Raya continues to be Arsenal’s ever-present shot-stopper. In front of him, Thomas Partey started the last match for a suspended Jurrien Timber who has been Arteta’s right-back of choice recently. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes are the two preferred centre-backs, with Riccardo Calafiori making his second start in a row at left-back, taking over from Myles Lewis-Skelly.

Jorginho made his first Premier League start in almost a month and narrowly avoided a red card against Brighton. He was playing alongside midfield regulars Declan Rice and Mikel Merino who have started four out of the last six matches for the Gunners.

Since Saka’s injury, Nwaneri has filled the void on the right wing, scoring his fifth goal of the season in his last outing. But the young star suffered an injury and was subbed off at half-time for Gabriel Martinelli. Gabriel Jesus started another game in the middle, with Leandro Trossard as the other forward.

Arsenal Recent Form and Tactics

The Gunners are now unbeaten in their last six matches, with three wins and three draws. Brighton held them to a 1-1 draw on Sunday which would have put a dent in their title hopes had Liverpool not also drawn their match.

Scoring eight goals in their previous two EFL cup ties, Arsenal are proving to be a formidable force at home in this competition. That said, the quarter-final against Crystal Palace was a close call at 3-2 and Bolton also managed to fire one back proving this side is not invincible.

Arsenal’s 4-3-3 set up utilises their plethora of more attack-minded players both in midfield and further forward especially when their key stars are fit. Saka and Nwaneri’s injuries are blows to this side, which have been compounded by a recent sickness bug that has sidelined Havertz for the past two games as well.

Arsenal Injuries and Absentees to Consider

Arteta gave two key fitness updates with the biggest news surrounding Ethan Nwaneri.

He said in the pre-match presser: “Unfortunately he has picked up an injury and is going to be out for a few weeks. Muscular injury.”

Meanwhile, the sickness bug is still taking its toll on the squad, especially Kai Havertz. It is still not certain as to whether he will be fit to be included in the squad.

Arteta’s update on Havertz being ready for Tuesday night’s fixture was guarded: “I hope so but I don’t want to say yes because last time I said I thought he was going to be fit and he wasn’t fit.”

The German star has missed the past two matches due to illness and has been physically unable to travel with the matchday squad.

The Arsenal manager then confirmed that there were still issues with illness elsewhere in the squad, but that “hopefully” no more players would be missing from the matchday squad.

Jurrien Timber will be available after missing his last Premier League game due to suspension (five yellow cards).
