‘Beast’ Makes First Start: England Predicted Lineup Vs Spain

England play Spain in the final of Euro 2024. The match takes place on July 14 from the Olympiastadion Berlin, the home ground of Hertha BSC. Here is our England predicted lineup.

England Predicted Lineup vs Spain in Huge Opportunity to End Trophy Drought

How England Have Lined-up Recently

Gareth Southgate has used a 3-4-2-1 formation for the past two matches, rather than his initially preferred 4-2-3-1. Jordan Pickford is the goalkeeper with three centre-backs in front of him: Marc Guehi, John Stones, and Kyle Walker.

Declan Rice is partnered by Kobbie Mainoo in the centre of midfield. Bukayo Saka (on the right) and Kieran Trippier (on the left) play as wide-midfielders/wing-backs.

Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden are both quite central attacking midfielders, behind Harry Kane – the striker and captain.

England’s Recent Form

England were victorious in 90 minutes for the first time since their opening match at Euro 2024, 2-1 against the Netherlands. It appears that their back-three system has worked, both against Slovakia, but more successfully against the Dutch.

After conceding in the 7th minute, the Three Lions were dominant for around an hour. England’s width and Foden’s free-roaming role seemed to work to an extent as they played with much more freedom than in previous matches.

However, it took a very controversial penalty for Southgate’s side to equalise and it then took until the 91st minute for a winner. This was not a hugely convincing performance.

A problem was the role of Kane. His dropping deep has always been common, but it was particularly prominent and harmful in this fixture. He was consistently in the central midfield, and often then had nobody ahead to play to. This was highlighted by Ollie Watkins’ swift impact, scoring after ten minutes with a great run in behind.

England Injuries and Suspensions to Consider

Luke Shaw has been substituted on in the last two matches, in the 78th against Switzerland and at a much earlier half-time against Spain. This suggests that he could, finally, be ready to start after almost five months without one. We expect the “beast” to return in the final.
