Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Red Devils are “increasingly confident” of securing a deal with the 24-year-old centre-back to join them ahead of the 2024/25 season. He adds that De Light has given clear instructions to his agent, Rafaela Pimenta about only giving priority to a move to Old Trafford.

The journalist adds that talks between the two respective parties are ongoing between the Old Trafford giants and Bayern Munich officials over the structure of the transfer fee. Romano claims that the Red Devils want to offer a part of the fee in potential performance-related add-on clauses – and that is probably holding back the deal from being completed. Erik ten Hag is reportedly keen on being reunited with the Dutch defender, a player he coached at Ajax and knows how to get the best out of.
Romano has also stated that the Premier League heavyweights have received a “green light” from De Ligt over a transfer. He adds that the Dutch defender has already spoken with Ten Hag and that the Red Devils are now getting ready to advance in talks with Bayern over a possible move.

Apart from pursuing a move for the Bayern Munich man, United are also looking to strengthen other areas of their squad. The Red Devils are reportedly looking to sign Bologna forward Joshua Zirkzee to add more variety to their forward line for the upcoming campaign, as they need to replace Anthony Martial who recently left the club. The Manchester giants have reportedly received a green light from Zirkzee, who looks ready to move to Old Trafford.

But the potential move for De Ligt is being targeted to improve their defensive line after Ten Hag experienced significant injuries in defence last season. The 24-year-old is likely being eyed as a replacement for the departed Raphael Varane. The Dutch defender has recently been praised as a “world-class defender” by Bayern Munich fans, who have launched a petition to keep the defender at the Bundesliga club.
