How Bayern Munich Have Lined Up Recently

Bayern began their first leg match with the league leaders of the EPL with Manuel Neuer in goal. Joshua Kimmich and Alphonso Davies as the outside backs, while Matthijs de Ligt played centre-back alongside Eric Dier. Konrad Laimer started as holding midfielder next to Leon Goretzka, as Leroy Sané, Jamal Musiala, Serge Gnabry and Harry Kane made up the front four.

That means that Neuer replaced Sven Ulreich in goal, after the former had recovered from his injury. Beyond that, there were also changes in central defence, where de Ligt and Dier returned to the lineup for Dayot Upamecano and Min-jae Kim, compared to the game against Heidenheim. The fourth and final change from said encounter was Sané coming in for Thomas Müller.

Bayern Munich Recent Form and Tactics

Despite the Arsenal game having been arguably one of the Bavarians’ best performances of the season, the fact remains that they are winless in the last three encounters in all competitions. That must change quickly, if they are to save their season. Bayern have only won four of their last 10 matches, losing four and drawing the remaining two.

But if Tuesday’s match proved anything, it was that Bayern’s problems were not down to personnel or tactics, but rather concentration and desire. Given those attributes, the team are more than capable of beating any opponent in Europe on any given day. They were certainly not the weaker team at the Emirates, which is even more remarkable, given that no travelling fans were allowed in the stadium that night.

They have to work hard to achieve victory, which is all the more difficult in the Bundesliga, knowing that the league title is long out of reach at this point. But the team must still likely earn some more points, in order to avoid slipping out of the top four.

Bayern Munich Injuries to Consider

Unfortunately, Gnabry and Sané join Sacha Boey as well as Bouna Sarr on the injury list, as coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed to the media on Friday. Tuchel himself won’t be on the sidelines against Koln, due to yellow card accumulation.
