Martinez a Possibility: Manchester United Predicted Lineup vs. Brentford

Manchester United will again face bitter rivals Liverpool in a repeat of their epic FA Cup quarter-final battle just three weeks ago. The Red Devils prevailed 4-3 in extra-time thanks to Amad Diallo’s last-gasp winner. This Premier League clash takes place at Old Trafford on Sunday, April 7, with a 3:30 PM BST kick-off time. Here is your Manchester United Predicted Lineup for the showdown.

How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently

Manchester United have lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation throughout the season, with André Onana in goal.

At right-back, Diogo Dalot has made the berth his own, with the experienced Raphael Varane at centre-back flanked by either Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof or Jonny Evans. Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been at left-back since returning from injury, deputising for the injured Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.

In midfield, Kobbie Mainoo has been a mainstay, playing alongside Scott McTominay after Casemiro was ruled out with an injury in mid-March, although the Brazilian did return for Thursday night’s game at Chelsea.

Alejandro Garnacho, Bruno Fernandes, and Marcus Rashford have been most often the starters in the winger/attacking midfield positions, although Antony replaced Rashford in the starting line-up at Stamford Bridge. Rasmus Hojlund has been a permanent fixture in front of them since his return from injury in the FA Cup win over Liverpool.

Manchester United Recent Form and Tactics

Manchester United have been inconsistent and chaotic throughout the season, not least in Thursday’s 4-3 defeat at the hands of Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea. Taking a 3-2 lead into stoppage time, Erik ten Hag’s side proceeded to implode and somehow hand the hosts a victory, once again highlighting their extreme lack of ability to manage games.

Whilst the team’s best football often comes in chaotic matches in which they can play in transition, their worst moments also seem to happen in the same period, with the Chelsea debacle a perfect illustration of this.

Despite being unconvincing and utterly porous since August, with a record number of shots faced since the turn of the year, the Red Devils have won nine of 14 matches in that time, leading them to an FA Cup semi-final and hanging on the coattails of Tottenham and Aston Villa in the Champions League places above them.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

After a brief respite, the injuries have once again begun to pile up for Ten Hag, with up to nine first-team players set to miss Sunday’s game.

Luke Shaw (Thigh), Lisandro Martinez (Calf) and Victor Lindelof (Thigh) are set to be out until the start of May, with Tyrell Malacia expected back in two weeks having resumed training.

Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Casemiro limped out of Thursday’s defeat at Chelsea, and if, as expected, they don’t make the squad for the game with Liverpool, Willy Kambwala and Harry Maguire will be the only natural centre-back options to choose from.

Anthony Martial is still recovering from groin surgery.
