How Chelsea Women Have Lined Up Recently

The starting eleven has been relatively settled in recent games, Hannah Hampton tends to start in goals with Zećira Mušović coming in as a rotational option. Aside from the right-back spot where Ashley Lawrence and Ève Périsset have split game time the starting back four has just been Kadeisha Buchanan, Jess Carter, and Niamh Charles.

The central midfield duo has usually been Erin Cuthbert and Melanie Leupolz with Sjoeke Nüsken (when she’s not pushed further up) or Jelena Čanković filling in when needed.

Lauren James has played as a false nine, often accompanied by a pressing partner like Nusken and flanked by wingers Aggie Beeverer-Jones, Guro Reiten, and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd. Catarina Macario has yet to play more than 45 minutes but can fill in the striker spot.

Chelsea Recent Form and Tactics

After playing in a 4-2-3-1 for most of the season the striker shortage forced Emma Hayes to get creative. They also set up in a 4-3-3 with Fran Kirby as the false nine to provide runners for her to pass to.

The team has been in-form with big wins over Manchester City, Ajax, and Arsenal in recent weeks despite the injury issues. They’ve become a defensive wall without losing their attacking impetus as they have only failed to score twice in the entire campaign to date.

Chelsea Women Injuries to Consider

In some positive news, Mayra Ramirez is fit to play, but Nathalie Björn is not despite making the bench for the clash with West Ham. There were no updates given on other long-term absentees but Millie Bright’s absence from the England squad presumably rules her out. We can assume that Ann-Katrin Berger, Maren Mjelde, Aniek Nouwen, Mia Fishel, and Sam Kerr will also still be sidelined.
