“He Threw the Bib, Visibly Upset”: Real Madrid Consider Loan Options as Young Star Wants More Minutes

Carlo Ancelotti speaks out on Arda Guler future

Arda Guler has struggled to find his place in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans since making his long-awaited Real Madrid debut in January. Despite showing flashes of brilliance in his brief cameos, the 18-year-old is edging closer to a summer move away from Santiago Bernabeu.

Will Arda Guler Leave Real Madrid Next Summer?

A Slow Start

Real Madrid landed a £17 million move for Guler after beating Barcelona in a close transfer race last summer. However, they had to wait until January to get their first glimpse of the star as his debut was delayed by a serious knee injury.

Since then, the teenager has played a total of only 92 minutes across all competitions, struggling to force his way into Real Madrid’s star-studded midfield line. With the likes of Jude Bellingham and Brahim Diaz enjoying excellent form, the teenager’s chances of securing regular playing time don’t look promising.

Real Madrid’s Solution

Neither the hype around Guler’s transfer nor his underwhelming start is unprecedented at Santiago Bernabeu. The club have faced similar scenarios with several high-profile transfers in the past.

Back in July, the newly signed midfielder ruled out a loan move, insisting he wanted to fight for his place under Ancelotti. But such a scenario doesn’t seem far-fetched anymore.

According to Matteo Moretto, Real Madrid could accept a loan offer for Guler in the summer. The club prioritize his development over having an extra midfielder in the squad.

No Guarantees From Ancelotti

Guler has grown increasingly frustrated with his limited playing time in recent weeks. He already “threw…[his] bib, visibly upset” after he was left on the bench against Almeria. Ancelotti’s decision to play academy star Nico Paz has only added insult to injury, worsening the Turkey international’s position in the pecking order.

Asked about Guler’s situation, the Real Madrid manager told the press before the Valencia clash: “I think that a young player like him, to progress, needs to play to show his quality, but that clashes with the demands of the team and the club.

“We have to be patient for that. I understand that we have to get minutes, but that does not correspond to the demands of the team.”

Possible Loan Destinations for Guler

Milan were among Guler’s main suitors last summer but failed to match Real Madrid and Barcelona’s offers for the youngster. According to Calciomercato, the Italian giants could make a new attempt to add the playmaker to their ranks in the next transfer window.

Brahim Diaz’s successful loan spell at Milan increases their chances of reaching an agreement with Real Madrid for Guler. However, the Rossoneri could face competition from the likes of Bayer Leverkusen and Tottenham Hotspur, who have also shown interest in signing him in the past.
