This will be the youngster’s third loan spell in La Liga after two separate spells with Deportivo Alavés. Signed during Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s managerial reign back in 2020, Pellistri has struggled for game time at Old Trafford, making just 13 appearances in between the aforementioned loan spells.

What Kind Of Player Facundo Pellistri

According to the official Manchester United website, Pellistri is an exciting and quick right-footed winger with excellent potential to succeed at the top level. With 18 caps in an exciting Uruguay team containing the likes of Ronald Araujo, Federico Valverde and Darwin Nunez, the youngster’s lack of first-team action at Old Trafford hasn’t harmed his chances at international level thus far.

Why Are Manchester United Loaning Him Out?

It would seem that Pellistri is surplus to requirements at United, with Dutch coach Erik ten Hag preferring to use inverted wingers, meaning players that cut inside from the wing onto their stronger foot. As a more conventional (some might read old-fashioned) wide man, the Uruguayan has found opportunities hard to come by and been resigned to third or fourth-choice winger in the squad.

Will Facundo Pellistri Leave Permanently In The Summer?

“Erik ten Hag hasn’t used him, valued him, or treated him like a professional. He has a loan that the boy decided to go on. All of Manchester knew Ten Hag summoned him against a fourth division team and he didn’t use him.”

Pellistri’s agent Edgardo Lasalvia spoke to Uruguayan Radio station Sport 890 and was scathing about the treatment of his client, lamenting his lack of game time and potentially opening the door to a permanent deal elsewhere come the summer. The Uruguayan’s contract runs until 2025 but if the first-team door continues to be closed for him, a move away in the summer could be best for all parties.
