‘Open to Leave’: Journalist Reports That London Club Could Lose ‘Goal Threat’ Veteran

Fulham and West Ham players scramble in the box for a cross

West Ham are in the middle of the pack so far this season in the Premier League. A strong run of form, or a dip in their performance on the pitch, could see them rise to a spot for European football or drop into the bottom half of the table. Whatever David Moyes leads the Hammers to over the next couple of months, Florian Plettenberg believes that it could be without one of their defensive starlets.

Reports Coming out of Germany

The Sky Sports Germany journalist stated that Thilo Kehrer is “open to leave West Ham” this winter. A lack of playing time serves as the main reason behind the German defender’s potential departure. An integral component of the Hammers’ campaign last year, the 27-year-old appears ready to depart and find a starting role somewhere else.

Plettenberg reported that “Many clubs inquired about him.” Eintracht Frankfurt, according to the German outlet Sport Bild, are arguably the most interested club at the moment. The Bundesliga outfit has “more candidates on their list,” however, and Kehrer could end up with another squad in January.

Kehrer’s Rise and Fall

A product of Schalke 04’s famed youth academy, he came to West Ham from Paris Saint-Germain following a treble of Ligue 1 titles and an appearance in the Champions League final. Heralded as a “goal threat” despite his defensive positioning, the German played in 27 Premier League fixtures and helped the team secure European glory in the Europa Conference League.

This year, though, his time at London Stadium has been limited. David Moyes prefers multiple options over Kehrer. The 27-year-old now only features as a substitute. Plenty of good years in European football are still ahead of the former EURO U21 champion, but it will likely not be with the Hammers.
