Stamford Bridge Corner Flag

Chelsea have not had the best of starts to the Mauricio Pochettino era at all and have been left lingering in 12th place in the Premier League after 16 games. There is a need for a lot of change for the Blues to compete for top honours and it appears that the club is aiming to do business in the January transfer window.

Chelsea Add Victor Osimhen And More To Shortlist

The Guardian’s Jacob Steinberg claims that the Blues are considering the signing of a top striker in the January transfer window. However, it is added that the squad might need to be trimmed down with some departures to accommodate the signing of a new forward.

Steinberg states that they will weigh up buying a new striker in the winter window and that Brentford man Ivan Toney as well as Napoli star Victor Osimhen are “high on their wishlist”. The journalist also reports that the London heavyweights have been scouting Sporting CP youngster Viktor Gyokeres. He added that the necessary funds needed to secure the signing of a new striker could be acquired by selling some of the unwanted players in their squad.

Who Is The Best Option To Fix Chelsea’s Problems?

Chelsea have not been able to elevate their performances with the arrival of Nicolas Jackson in the summer window. Even though the 22-year-old has scored six goals in 15 appearances for them, his lack of consistency and topsy-turvy performances have left a lot of fans frustrated. Armando Broja is yet to impress either, which is why the Blues might look for a new striker.

Ivan Toney has definitely proven himself capable of excelling in the Premier League, having scored 20 goals in 33 appearances for Brentford. But he hasn’t played any games since he received a ban earlier this year. Gyokeres has scored nine goals and provided four assists in 12 appearances in the Portuguese league for Sporting, but is unproven at the top level. For long-term success, the signing of Osimhen seems the best option.

The Nigerian striker, once hailed as “phenomenal” has netted six times  in 11 Serie A appearances this season and had 26 strikes in 32 league games last term. He is prolific in front of the goal, can trouble defenders with his movement and has impressed with his link-up play. Osimhen seems to have all the skills to be the ideal fix to their problem and be that driving force that really lights up their frontline. Whether or not the Blues can sign him, however, remains to be seen.
