Crystal Palace Current Run of Form

Crystal Palace are currently on a sporadic run of form; the Eagles have drawn twice, lost twice, and won once in their last five games.

Roy Hodgson’s side most recently suffered a heavy loss of 4-0 to Newcastle United. They have also lost 3-0 to Manchester United (albeit in the EFL Cup) in recent times.

The defence is not the only problem, with the side failing to score in either of the two draws. This occurred against mediocre opposition at home: Fulham and Nottingham Forest. The injuries of key creators Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze are clearly impacting the attacking output of the side.

One recent positive, was the huge 1-0 win away at Old Trafford. The defence (especially goalkeeper Sam Johnstone) did well to keep a clean sheet, and a crucial 3 points were gained. However, the attack was still lacking in fluidity. All five shots from inside the box came from set pieces. Something will need to change if the South London outfit aim to score goals against a well-drilled Spurs defence.

Tottenham’s Current Run of Form

Tottenham’s form, contrastingly, has been consistently strong. With four wins out of their last five games, they have continuously scored and rarely conceded. This is not without tough opposition, after beating Liverpool and drawing away to rivals Arsenal.
Ange Postecoglou’s side have shown resilience: coming from behind twice against their neighbours, and scoring two last-gasp goals against Sheffield United. The team have also shown that they can dominate games against inferior opposition, beating both Luton Town and Fulham comprehensively (though the scoreline may not show it).
At the heart of such strong performances are their star players: Son Heung-Min and James Maddison. The former is the second top scorer and the latter is the second top assister in the Premier League this season. These two will be vital to Tottenham Hotspur’s season.
One red flag in recent games is the occasional inability to take their chances. In the first half against Luton, an xG of 1.53 was generated and the scoreline was 0-0. The Lilywhites only won the game 1-0, thanks to a well-drilled corner routine, and those missed chances could have cost the side an easy 3 points. Similarly, in the first half against Sheffield United, Tottenham’s xG was 1.09 and they failed to score. Despite being top of the league, Postecoglou has received some luck and his side have not been performing perfectly.

Recent Head-to-Head

The North London club have emerged victorious in the previous three meetings, including 4-0 and 3-0 thrashings. However, in the last three meetings at Selhurst Park, Tottenham have only taken all three points once.

Crystal Palace vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

The Lilywhite’s hot form and luck is expected to come to an end at some point in the near future.
Yet the fragmented attack of Crystal Palace will likely be no match for the strong defence of Tottenham Hotspur. The away side are expected to heavily dominate and give the home team few goalscoring opportunities.
However, at a raucous Selhurst Park, the Eagles are expected to bounce back from the 4-0 drubbing and should put in a strong defensive shift: particularly Sam Johnstone, Marc Guehi and Joachim Andersen.
We predict a close scoreline: Crystal Palace 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur.
