West Ham United have had an impressive start to the 2023/24 Premier League season and are only three points behind a top-4 place. It appears they are now ready to reward Kurt Zouma with a new contract.

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that the Hammers are ready to hand a new contract to captain Zouma after being impressed with his performances for the club. He also adds that “discussions will take place” in the coming weeks and months.

The 28-year-old defender’s current contract will expire on June 30, 2025. He had signed a four-year contract when he joined West Ham from Chelsea in 2021. Romano reiterates that Zouma is an “important player” for David Moyes’ side after becoming club captain at the start of the new campaign. The journalist also admits that the Frenchman is not involved in concrete negotiations – with other clubs over a possible future transfer. It is now up to West Ham to find an agreement with him to extend his stay with the club.

Moyes convinced the 28-year-old to join his side in 2021 after he failed to get regular game-time at Chelsea. He has had an eventful career with the club, making 72 appearances in all competitions while scoring four goals.

Zouma also won the UEFA Europa Conference League with West Ham last season and made six appearances. The Frenchman has also been involved in controversy during his time with the Hammers after leaked footage saw him abusing his pet cat. However, the centre-back has become a mainstay in Moyes’ side and was even hailed as “exceptional” by him last year.
