Arsenal have had an unbeaten start to the 2023/24 Premier League season so far and seem to be well-occupied in a majority of the areas in the squad. Still, they were recently reported to be eyeing a possible move for Brentford defender Aaron Hickey.
Arsenal’s Links to Aaron Hickey Clarified
Are Arsenal Really Interested In Hickey?
Fabrizio Romano has opened up on the Gunners’ links to the Scottish full-back and stated that there is no “concrete” interest from Mikel Arteta’s side for the Premier League defender. The journalist states that the North London club have just done a few scouting missions on Hickey and reiterates that clubs like the Gunners probably scout hundreds of players worldwide.
Considering how well Oleksandr Zinchenko has been performing for them since arriving from Manchester City last year, Arsenal do not appear to be that keen on making a concrete move for someone like Hickey yet.
Romano, however, has voiced his admiration for the Brentford defender, calling him an “excellent” full-back even before his move to England from Serie A.
He further adds: “I think Hickey is very talented, he was already an excellent full-back at Bologna and a very professional guy so I’m not surprised that there’s now speculation about him as he could certainly be good enough to get a big move at some point, but I’m not aware of anything concrete happening now.”

How Has Hickey Performed for Brentford?
The 21-year-old full-back was signed by Thomas Frank’s side last year and seems to have solidified his role as a regular starter this season. He has started in all of the Bees’ Premier League matches so far this season, playing both as a right-back and a left-back.
Hickey has made 33 appearances in all competitions for Brentford since arrived at the club from Italy, for whom he had six goal contributions (five goals, one assist) in 48 appearances. The “amazing” full-back appears to have interest in clubs like Arsenal but it remains to be seen if he can convince them to make a move for him next year.
