According to Last Word on Football’s sources, Leeds United are “still trying” to secure a centre-forward, with Aston Villa’s Cameron Archer being one of the names in consideration. FootballTalentScout considers the player an “incredible young talent” that could break through in the coming seasons.

Leeds United ‘Still Trying’ to Secure a Striker with Cameron Archer on the List

Why Leeds United Need a Striker

Amongst the many positions where the Elland Road side look weak, striker is potentially one of the worst. Patrick Bamford is one of the most injury-prone players in the squad, Rodrigo left earlier in the summer for a club in Qatar and Georginio Rutter is more of a creator than a finisher.

This all leaves a gaping hole in the Leeds squad, with Daniel Farke having plenty of forwards that are able to put chances together but not finish them. By adding a striker, the Whites can begin to put more focus on filling the vast gaps that are emerging in their squad as players leave.

Why Choose Cameron Archer?

One of the main reasons the Leeds United hierarchy might consider Archer is the incredibly high standard he demonstrated in the Championship last season. In just 20 appearances for Middlesbrough he netted eleven times whilst contributing a further six assists.

All this comes at the age of just 22, so there is plenty of room for the youngster to grow if Farke is able to push his side onward to promotion. 49ers Enterprises need to be building towards a sustainable future with more of a focus on squad structure than the previous regime. Securing the striker would not only be a big show of intent but is the first step in creating a squad that fans can rely on.
