What’s the Latest on the Romeo Lavia to Liverpool Deal?

Liverpool’s opening bid of “around £37 million” has been rejected reports David Ornstein. Southampton are standing firm on their £50 million valuation.

Lavia has now shown his keen interest in the move by putting his cards on the table and giving Liverpool the green light. This won’t come as a surprise considering his quality and age, and the fact that Southampton were relegated last season.

Watch: Why Romeo Lavia will be perfect for Jurgen Klopp

Fabrizio Romano reports that talks have been ongoing on the player’s side for over a month. Jason Wilcox is now said to be leading the negotiations for Southampton and he’s insisting on a package deal worth £50 million.

Lavia featured heavily and was one of the standout performers in a struggling Southampton side last season. Showing promise in his first senior campaign has led to multiple clubs keeping him on their radar.

The youngster joined the south coast side last year from Manchester City and instantly showed why he’s one of the most sought-after talents in Europe.

Lavia to Complete Liverpool’s New Midfield Trio

Jurgen Klopp has already bolstered his midfield this summer with big-money moves for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai. These two acquisitions should prove instrumental in Liverpool’s potential resurgence next season, as the midfield was a notable weak point across most of last term.

Lavia could provide Klopp with the final piece of his midfield jigsaw, seen by some as the “perfect” successor to Fabinho, and a top-quality player in his own right.

The youngster is evidently showing keen interest in a move to Liverpool with the length of the negotiations, and the £50 million package deal put forward by Jason Wilcox of Southampton isn’t too far away from Liverpool’s current valuation of the youngster. All signs point to this being a very doable deal for the Anfield side, but only time will tell whether they can get it done.
