Barcelona’s ‘Talented’ Defender to Join Another La Liga Club: Buy-Back Clause Included

Barcelona are set to part ways with their 2003-born defender, Chadi Riad, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. The youngster will join another top-table La Liga club on a permanent transfer.

The 20-year-old is a La Masia product and has impressed at the youth level. He was a key member of Barca Atletic, playing 35 times in the league last season. The Camp Nou based side announced their squad for the upcoming pre-season US tour, and the exclusion of the Barcelona B star from the squad further fueled rumours of his departure.

Barcelona’s Moroccan youngster, Chadi Riad will play for Real Betis in the upcoming season. According to Romano, the 2003-born centre-back will move to the Seville-based club in search of regular playing time. With the presence of likes of Ronald Araujo, Andreas Christensen, Jules Kounde and the new signing Inigo Martinez, Riad would find it difficult to break into the first team.

The robust defender’s impressive performances for the B team earned him his first team debut in the 2022/23 season. The 6’2″ centre back replaced Pedri in the final minute of Barcelona’s 2-1 win over Osasuna in November 2022, to make his first senior appearance. Being a left-footed centre-back, the youngster is a rare profile in the market.

Details of the Deal: Sell-on Clause and Buy-Back Clause Included

The 20-year-old will join Los Verdiblancos for a fee of just over £2 million, as reported by Romano. The Italian journalist gave further details regarding the deal and revealed that the La Liga champions have included a 50 per cent sell-on clause in the deal.

The Blaugrana outfit have also incorporated a buy-back clause in the deal, giving them the advantage if the club wants to bring him back in the future, the transfer market expert tweeted. These details and clauses are testament to the Catalan’s trust in the left-sided centre-back’s talent and abilities.

According to reports, former Barca defender, Marc Bartra is also set to join the Andalusian outfit on a free transfer. The former La Masia defender can be a mentor figure for Riad. The Moroccan can take a leaf out of Bartra’s ball-playing abilities to fit into Barcelona’s style of play in future.
