Newcastle Look to Sign Axel Disasi

The report from Foot Mercato details how Newcastle have made a contract offer to AS Monaco defender Axel Disasi. The report also mentions that The Magpies have started negotiations over a fee, with Foot Mercato mentioning the French international will cost £ 34 million. According to Aouna and Denis, there is still an opportunity for Manchester United to hijack the deal as the Red Devils remain interested in the defender.

Newcastle enjoyed a memorable 2022/23 season under Eddie Howe finishing fourth and qualifying for this seasons Champions League. But with a return to European football, The Geordies will be undoubtedly looking to strengthen this summer, and it seems Disasi fits the bill. The French defender has been linked with a move to Manchester United, and according to a report from L’Equipe, Disasi desires a move to Old Trafford.

What Qualities Axel Disasi Would Bring to St James’ Park

Disasi is comfortable with the ball at his feet and is adept at playing progressive passes out of defence, which would make him a useful addition to any club that likes to play out from defence. He is excellent at last-ditch defending, which has often seen him help his team out of seemingly impossible situations.

The French defender has the physicality and stature to adapt to the Premier League, and playing in a team as defensively solid as Newcastle will only help his development. It remains to be seen whether Newcastle will win the race for the 25-year-old defender.
