In addition to those named above, the club was interested in Mike Maignan but Kisella notes that they were put off by an £80 million price tag.

Manchester United in Pole Position

With Mauricio Pochettino’s side out of the equation, it appears Erik ten Hag will be reunited with Onana at Old Trafford. The two worked together for a time at Ajax before moving on to their new destinations. The view from Manchester is that the Cameroon international could replace David de Gea if an agreement with the Spaniard over a new contract can’t be complete.

While the 32-year-old has been the number-one choice between the sticks for his team for some time, he is out of contract this summer and could leave on a free transfer. According to the Evening Standard, the Spanish shot-stopper is fielding interest from Saudi Arabia which could be enough to entice him away from the Premier League.

For Chelsea, they move on to new targets as their fanbase eagerly awaits some transfer news to celebrate after a tough season that saw the side finish 12th in the league.
