‘It’s Ridiculous’: Manchester United Legend Urges Club to Sell Award-Winning Player

Manchester United legend Roy Keane was not happy with the exuberant celebrations by the players. Keane instructed his old club to move the Spanish goalkeeper on this summer.

32-year-old Spaniard De Gea managed to keep 17 clean sheets during the domestic campaign for United, which was three better than Liverpool shot-stopper Alisson. Despite winning the award, Keane was unimpressed with the players celebrating. “They’re all patting De Gea on the back there…I’d move him on quickly. He wouldn’t be for me, he’s not going to get Manchester United back winning trophies, absolutely not.

“The idea that the players are patting him on the back is ridiculous, that’s his job,” he added. Despite winning the award, Keane remains unconvinced of De Gea remaining part of Erik ten Hag’s Old Trafford revolution.

De Gea has been an integral part of Manchester United since joining the club on June 29, 2011. Ten Hag has previously insisted the Spaniard will sign a new deal. The Manchester United goalkeeper has been criticised this season for costly mistakes but has also impressed throughout the season. At 32 years old, he remains an exceptional shot-stopper who is capable of making exceptional saves to help win games. He possesses impressive reflexes, and he has improved at dealing with crosses into the box as he’s become more experienced.
