Talks Already Underway: Manchester United Considering £30.5 Million Swoop to Revolutionise Right Flank

Jeremie Frimpong who could replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka at Manchester United

With his contract expiring in June of 2024, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has selected the perfect time in his career to have a resurgence. The Crystal Palace academy product has certainly turned heads with his recent impressive displays and he could play a key role as Manchester United look to secure a Champions League spot for next season, as well as win an FA cup over their arch-rivals Manchester City.

However, it could be too late for the Englishman as Erik ten Hag is weighing up his options ahead of the transfer window. Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News has reported that the United boss still wants to improve the right-back area, and one man on the list is Jeremie Frimpong. The Red Devils have recently held positive discussions with the Bayer Leverkusen star’s representatives, but Wan-Bissaka’s recent rejuvenation has led to doubt over whether he will be moved on in the summer.

Manchester United Looking to Upgrade on Aaron Wan-Bissaka – Jeremie Frimpong Is an Option

Wan-Bissaka Is a Tackling Machine

Wan-Bissaka’s ability to tackle is well-known by players around the Premier League. Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma noted that “it was a complete defeat” when he failed to complete a single dribble against the right back in the FA Cup semifinal. Similarly, Leicester City midfielder James Maddison tweeted that Wan-Bissaka is the best in the world when it comes to one-on-one defending.

Lacking Quality in the Final Third

Although few can rival Wan-Bissaka’s defensive attributes, it might not be enough to make up for his offensive weaknesses. When compared to fellow right-back Diogo Dalot, the Portuguese international has more than double the expected goals and nearly twice the expected assists.

While Wan-Bissaka has proved he is the more prominent defender, his inefficiencies going forward are certainly a reason why Dalot has been given nine more appearances under Ten Hag.

Potential Replacement

One option United have been consistently linked with is Jeremie Frimpong. The Dutch defender has 17 goal contributions across all competitions this campaign: nine goals and eight assists. A player who can put up these kinds of numbers could revolutionise United’s right-hand side, providing a fantastic partner for whichever winger starts in front of him.

Currently, the value of the Bayer Leverkusen player is around £31.5 million, but as history has shown us, when the Red Devils come calling a player’s asking price tends to increase significantly.
