Borussia Monchengladbach Confirm Marcus Thuram and Another Star to Leave

The Red Devils are reportedly monitoring the situation of Thuram and could accelerate their pursuit of him once he becomes a free agent in the summer. The Bundesliga side’s sporting director Roland Virkus confirmed that the French forward and defender Remy Bensebaini will leave once their contract ends at the end of June.

He told the club’s website: “We were in open exchange with both players and knew the current status. It is a pity that they will not renew their expiring contracts because both of us have given us a lot of sports in the past four years. And we also understand that our fans are disappointed that the two don’t stay. However, in recent years, it has always been part of our way to get such talented players, to develop them further – and to let them go at some point because we can’t keep them forever.

“Ideally, we will achieve an attractive transfer with these transfers. Of course, it is not good that this is not the case. But: Both boys are players who can make the difference. Both have helped us in sports in recent years and are still doing so at the moment. Therefore, despite all justified disappointment, they deserve a stylish farewell.”

United Could Face Chelsea Competition for Thuram

The problem for the Red Devils when it comes to Thuram – who was hailed a “world-class striker” by Wolfsburg director Marcel Schäfer last year – is that he is also attracting attention from other major European clubs. Chelsea are also reported to have held talks with the 25-yeard-old in January over a potential deal.

Moreover, Fabrizio Romano has also reported that Barcelona are interested in signing Thuram as a free agent in the summer. As a result, the Red Devils will probably have to work overtime and produce a lucrative offer to the Frenchman to convince him to join them over these clubs. The 25-year-old has had a pretty good career at the Bundesliga club, having scored 44 goals and provided 27 assists in 130 appearances in all competitions.
