Fabrizio Romano: Arsenal’s £22 Million-Rated ‘Warrior’ Has Genuine Chance to Leave in Summer

Kieran Tierney and teammates celebrate a goal

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has a serious possibility of leaving the club for a new experience in the summer transfer window, claims Fabrizio Romano. The Scottish left-back has lost his spot in the starting XI since the arrival of Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.

Arsenal to Make Decision in Summer

Tierney has lost his place as a permanent starter at the Emirates Stadium and has mostly been used in cup competitions throughout this season. However, the Gunners are only going to decide on whether to sell him or not after the Premier League season is over – with the club fully focused on securing the title for now.

Romano wrote on his CaughtOffside column: “Kieran Tierney has a genuine chance to leave Arsenal in the summer. This is a possibility but Arsenal don’t want to negotiate now. They decided internally that there must be full focus on winning the Premier League; the big dream! – So there is no intention to distract the players including those who are not regular starters. In the summer, Arsenal will discuss Tierney’s situation at the end of the season but the defender definitely has the opportunity to experience something new.”

As it stands, it appears that the defender might as well be on his way out of the club as he’s craving regular game-time, which he’s unlikely to get over the extremely consistent and reliable Zinchenko.

Tierney’s Difficult Arsenal Career So Far Recapped

Since joining Arsenal in 2019 from Celtic, the Scotland international has not been able to consolidate a starting role for himself. In fact, his constant injuries and unavailability forced the Gunners to sign two left-backs Nuno Tavares and Zinchenko after his arrival.

Tierney has suffered several injury blows in the last four years, all of which have held him back from being a permanent starter in Mikel Arteta’s team. The 25-year-old, once labelled as a ‘warrior’ by ex-Arsenal defender Ashley Cole and currently rated at £22 million, has made 115 appearances in his Arsenal career – scoring five goals and providing 28 assists. That includes 28 appearances this season, but most have come from the bench.
