Jurgen Klopp’s side has been impacted by a relatively weak midfield core and that is why they are considering multiple options for the summer. Romano adds that Nunes is still being considered for this summer by the Reds, even though he only joined Wolves last year.

They have been impressed with the development of the Portuguese midfielder and how he’s adapted to the Premier League’s intensity. This comes after it was reported that Liverpool are increasingly unlikely to be able to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund, as they don’t want to get into a bidding war.

The report also adds that Mount is another option in their list of midfielders to sign in the summer amid the uncertainty around his future at Chelsea. Nunes, however, has been tracked by Liverpool for a much longer period after gaining a prominent spotlight following Pep Guardiola calling him ‘one of the best players in the world’ when he still played for Sporting Lisbon last year.

The Merseyside club are going to have a bit of a squad overhaul in the summer window, and that involves selling some of their current players too. Romano states that Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain “will both leave” on a free transfer after their current deals expire at the end of the campaign.

Both midfielders have competed sporadically for the Reds this season, with Keita making 13 appearances and Oxlade-Chamberlain making 12 appearances across all competitions. Nunes, on the other hand, has played 24 times this season, almost as much as both combined.
