Kante Deep Into Contract Talks With Chelsea

The 31-year-old midfielder’s only appearance for the Blues this season came in August when he featured in their first two games of the season against Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. However, soon after the match against Spurs, he suffered a nasty hamstring injury that threatened to end his season.

The 31-year-old had to undergo surgery as a result and was forced to miss the Qatar World Cup with France. Amid all this, he was also linked to a move to Barcelona – but ultimately decided against leaving Stamford Bridge. Romano adds that the French midfielder is deep in negotiations for a new contract and the talks are progressing to reach the final stages.

It is also stated that the new deal could be agreed to be valid for two years (until 2025) with an option to potentially extend it to 2026. Kante is keen to remain at Chelsea, where he is also among the highest-paid players.

Kante Could Play Key Role in Chelsea’s End-Of-Season Blitz

Without their midfield general dictating things for them, Chelsea have endured a very frustrating season. The Blues made a huge signing in January by bringing in Enzo Fernandez for a British transfer-record, but have not been able to improve their form as much as needed in recent months.

However, with Kante set to return soon, the immediate future looks a little brighter at Stamford Bridge. The Frenchman can play a prominent role in turning things around for Graham Potter’s side and help them progress further into the Champions League knockout stages too.

The 31-year-old, who was hailed as a “superman” for his amazing performances for Chelsea by former manager Thomas Tuchel, is a massive boost for the club as they head into the final chapter of the season and may just help them win yet another Champions League trophy.
