‘They Really Want Him’: Manchester United to Prioritize ‘Phenomenal’ Forward Over 30 G/a Star in Summer Window

Victor Osimhen celebrates goal

Manchester United are really gunning for the signing of Napoli star forward Victor Osimhen in the summer transfer window, confirms Sky Sports’ Florian Plettenberg. The Red Devils are likely to push for the signing of a new centre-forward in the summer to bolster their chances of winning the Premier League next season.

United Might Not Face Major Competition for Osimhen

The Manchester side signed Wout Weghorst on a loan deal from Burnley in January to fix their goal-scoring issues, but the Dutch forward has not been able to make the necessary goalscoring impact – having only scored two goals so far for Erik ten Hag’s side.

Plettenberg further states that United really want to sign Osimhen and have him ranked higher than Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani in their list of potential forward targets for the summer. It is also added that Manchester City are unlikely to seriously pursue a move for the Nigerian forward in the summer and a partnership with Erling Haaland is difficult to imagine.

It’s stated that Paris Saint-Germain are an admirer of the striker. But the only chance that they make a move for him is if one of their front-three – aka Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe or Neymar – leaves the club in the summer. Bayern Munich have also backed out of the race for the Napoli star – who was labelled as ‘phenomenal’ by Italian coach Walter Mazzarri a few years ago –  because they can’t finance a deal for him, per Plettenberg.

How Osimhen and Muani Have Fared This Season

It has already been reported that United need to pay well over £89 million if they want to sign Osimhen in the summer – because Napoli will not let him go easily. The Red Devils also reportedly need to make a ‘crazy bid’ to sign Muani, who has been in red-hot form in the Bundesliga this season.

The two young forwards have been making waves at their respective clubs. the French international has 30 goal contributions in all competitions for Frankfurt, including 16 goals and 14 assists. His Italian-based counterpart, meanwhile, is tearing it up for Gli Azzurri with 23 goals and five assists in 28 appearances – as he seems set to lead them to the Scudetto title. Irrespective of whomever they like better, United will need to pay big money to sign either of these two promising strikers in the summer.
