Erik ten Hag Sends Cryptic Message Regarding Future of ‘Spectacular’ Manchester United Youngster

Facundo Pellistri

There has recently been several reports suggesting that 21-year-old Facundo Pellistri may be loaned out by Manchester United in the January transfer window. However, it appears as though Erik ten Hag now intends to keep the forward at Old Trafford.

Speaking ahead of the side’s FA Cup tie against Reading, Ten Hag was asked about the possibility of the player departing the club on loan, to which he replied: “We put on Pellistri [on Wednesday], that is a signal.”

Facundo Pellistri Will Not Be Leaving Manchester United on Loan

Pellistri to Stay

Whilst the United boss has been deliberately cryptic, it does appear as though he plans for the winger to stay at the club. It is a show of faith from the Dutchman who has previously revealed that he sees a “future” in the player.

There were thoughts that another loan move for the winger would be the best option to further his development, but the Uruguayan now has the opportunity to prove himself at one of the biggest clubs in world football.

What Role Will He Play?

It is unlikely that he will be afforded too many starts, particularly in the Premier League. However, he will certainly have a role to play off the bench, especially in cup competitions.

Speaking after the side’s 3-0 Carabao Cup win against Nottingham Forest, Ten Hag described the forward as: “A little bit different, like a left-footed right winger we have with Antony and he is right-footed and his good chance he created was his cross for Wout Weghorst.”

With the Red Devils still in both domestic cup competitions, as well as the Europa League, the 21-year-old should be provided with plenty of opportunities to further showcase why he is held in such high esteem by so many – including his own teammates who have previously lauded him as “spectacular.”
