Noni Madueke

Exciting English winger Noni Madueke could be set for a switch to Stamford Bridge, according to a report from The Times. The PSV forward signed for the club in 2019, leaving the Tottenham Hotspur academy. But it’s London rivals Chelsea who could snatch the winger, for a fee of £27 million.

Fabrizio Romano Reveals Chelsea Interest in Noni Madueke

Who is Noni Madueke?

The 20-year-old was born in Barnet, London and played for the Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur academies. He opted to join PSV in 2019 and has scored 19 goals for the club. He has represented England at each level since U16s, including four U21s appearances. However, he’s yet to have been called up to Gareth Southgate’s squad. Madueke is noticeably injury-prone, missing the first three months of this season with an ankle issue. He’s also suffered multiple muscle problems over the past few seasons.

Why Are Chelsea Interested?

Chelsea are one of the busiest clubs in the January transfer window. The West London outfit have already signed defender Benoit Badiashile from Monaco, as well as youngsters David Datro Fofana and Andrey Santos. Last week, Chelsea signed Joao Felix on a 6-month loan deal, without an option to buy. The West London club have struggled for form and goals, losing six of their past eight, scoring only four times. Wingers Christian Pulisic and Raheem Sterling are out injured, and the team’s attacking forces have all offered very little as a consistent threat. The introduction of a young, fearless winger like Noni Madueke to the side could prove effective, as the club are desperate for an upturn in form. As reported by Fabrizio Romano on January 13, Chelsea are in “direct contact” with PSV over the player having made an opening proposal of £27 million, and the Dutch side are willing to sell if the price is right.

January Looks to Be a Busy Month for Chelsea

Chelsea’s injury crisis and poor form has forced the club into spending big in January. As reported previously, the club have asked Brighton for Moises Caicedo’s price tag. Fans have desperately been calling for a right-back and a midfielder. Star player Reece James is out injured with a knee problem, and a breakdown in negotiations with Benfica for Enzo Fernandez is a bitter blow to Chelsea’s aspirations. However, the Stamford Bridge club appear on the verge of signing Mykhailo Mudryk of Shakhtar Donetsk.

Top four looks like an increasingly difficult prospect, as they currently lie 10 points adrift of Newcastle. They host Crystal Palace on Sunday, desperate to kickstart their 2023.
