Fabrizio Romano Gives Cristiano Ronaldo Replacement Update Manchester United Fans Will Love

Manchester United still remains a preferred destination for PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils are currently looking to sign a new forward after the exit of Cristiano Ronaldo last month.

Cody Gakpo Still Keen on Manchester United Move

United Must Make Final Decision on Gakpo Signing in January

The Manchester side has been linked with a move for the Netherlands star from the summer transfer window. They were really keen on a move for him before bailing out after securing the acquisition of Antony from Ajax.

However, Romano claims that Gakpo still remains keen on a move to Old Trafford despite seeing a deal break down earlier this year. United’s discussions with his agents have been very positive so far. They have been really encouraged to make a move for him in the winter transfer window.

But now it’ll be on Erik ten Hag’s side to make the final decision on whether they want to pull the trigger on the deal for him or not. PSV will demand over £50 million, Romano also adds. United have usually refrained from spending big fees on signings in January, but as they are looking to sign a new striker soon, the Red Devils could be forced to gather extra cash to spend next month.

United Could Sign Gakpo to Replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Ten Hag has personally admitted that his side will be on the lookout for a new forward signing in the winter window after falling short of options in the department following the untimely departure of Ronaldo. It’s been claimed by The Athletic that United consider Gakpo as the top option to replace the Portuguese forward after being impressed by his heroics at the World Cup.

The PSV man was on fire in Qatar and scored three goals in five appearances for the Netherlands team, helping them to the quarter-finals. He has been one of the most prolific players in Europe this season, having scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists in all competitions at the domestic level. United are clearly interested in signing the 23-year-old, but it remains to be seen if they spend a major fee for him in January.
