New Liverpool Midfielder Arthur Melo Incoming

Who is Arthur Melo?

The Brazilian midfielder currently plays for Juventus, and is widely renowned for his passing ability. Whilst he hasn’t scored a single goal or completed an assist in the last year, his entire focus on the pitch is receiving the ball and creating chances for others. Melo also has a high rate of pressing, engaging with opponents as often as possible.  This is ideal for the gegenpressing style that Liverpool’s coach focuses on.

Why do Liverpool Need a New Midfielder?

Liverpool have been struggling with injuries in midfield as of late. Youngster Harvey Elliott has had to start several matches of the Premier League season so far, which is not ideal for a club that’s gotten off to something of a stumbling start.

Specifically, Jurgen Klopp’s side need a holding midfielder. Fabinho, James Milner and Jordan Henderson are all ageing footballers, so the 26-year-old Brazilian coming in could offer some more energy to the side and add another level of urgency to the side’s pressing game.

Why is Arthur Melo Moving?

Arthur Melo wanting a move makes a lot of sense. He is struggling for minutes at Juventus at the moment, with Adrien Rabiot and Manuel Locatelli holding down positions in the midfield. The Brazilian has been neither in the first team nor on the bench at all this season so far. This tells us that the Brazilian has been considering a move since the start of the season, and his position as the new Liverpool midfielder is perfectly suited to his likely ambitions of a place at the World Cup in Qatar.
