‘Medical on Tuesday’: Manchester United Will Make Yet Another Signing as Spending Spree Continues – Romano

Martin Dubravka

Manchester United have struck an agreement to sign Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka on loan for the 2022/23 season, confirms Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils are set to make him their sixth signing of the summer transfer window having splashed the cash already on the likes of Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez.

Manchester United Fully Agree Martin Dubravka Signing

Dubravka Set to Undergo His United Medical Soon

The Slovakian goalkeeper lost his place with the Magpies this season after the arrival of Nick Pope, who has been impressive in his first few weeks with Eddie Howe’s team. Dubravka is yet to make a single appearance this season, but still boasts some really solid experience in the Premier League.

United have agreed a loan deal and there is also an option to make it permanent next summer for around £5 million. The 33-year-old will travel to Manchester on Monday night with plans to undergo his medical with the Red Devils on Tuesday.

Dubravka should be one of the two proposed signings that United might have planned towards the end of the transfer window. They are also set to complete the signing of Ajax star Antony for a record £85 million fee, which will officially make him the most expensive sale in the history of the Eredivisie.

David de Gea Set for Competition at Old Trafford

The major reason why United are making a player like Dubravka their sixth signing of the summer is because Erik ten Hag wants genuine competition for no.1, David de Gea. After watching Dean Henderson get off to a solid start to the season with Nottingham Forest, the Duchman wants more than one option in the goalkeeper role and for someone to keep the Spanish goalkeeper on his toes.

Despite losing his regular role at Tyneside, Dubravka has 127-games of experience in the Premier League and kept 37 clean sheets in those games.

He is a brilliant shot-stopper and has made over 370 saves in his Premier League career, averaging almost three per game. Dubravka’s loan signing can just be a warning sign for De Gea to improve his performance levels and be more assertive with his work in the backline.
