The Details of the Deal

Romano claims the announcement will be made this week, as early as Monday or Tuesday, but that the deal is absolutely sealed. The fee is said to be £81 million guaranteed plus £4 million in add-ons that are easily met. United will also cover part of the solidarity payment due to Sao Paulo, Antony’s previous team. Payment terms were agreed late on Sunday afternoon, with final checks being made by the player’s legal team.

A Victory for Erik ten Hag

This will be seen as a huge victory for Erik ten Hag. The player was considered a priority from the very start of his reign at Old Trafford. Ajax boss Alfred Schreuder was determined to keep him a part of their squad and demonstrated that by their constant refusals of increasingly eye-watering sums of money from Manchester, but £85 million has been the breaking point and they’ve found the solution to the impasse.

Romano also claims there was another team interested in the player’s services in late July, but it was never taken seriously and an offer never materialised.

What Will United Be Getting in Antony?

Antony is majestic and exciting to watch, with scintillating wing play and end product in both the wide areas and the final third of the pitch. United already have talent in abundance with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga, but these players are prone to inconsistency and can’t be relied upon by Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman will hope Antony’s arrival will light a fire under his squad and drive them to new heights.
