Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions and Best Odds

Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur clash in one of the most important London derbies of the season at Stamford Bridge. It’s the first time Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte’s sides scrap it out for all-important early points in the Champions League race.

It’s a fixture that produces top performances, so find out what Last Word on Football predicts for the match and some of the best odds available.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Predictions

Chelsea Current Run of Form

Whilst Chelsea got their season off to a positive start against Everton last week, it’s impossible to say the same about their pre-season. The least promising of the results was a 4-0 loss to Arsenal, with both sides fielding one of their strongest lineups.

This came shortly after a loss to Charlotte FC on penalties, with the club’s woes only broken up by a 3-1 victory against Udinese.

Whilst the Blues’ first match is a promising sign of evolution for the club, it’s important to remember that it was against a side that spent last season desperately battling against relegation.

Tottenham Hotspur Current Run of Form

Spurs also started their season with a bang, putting four past Southampton in a romping win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Whilst the club didn’t have an ideal pre-season, it was still arguably better than that of Chelsea.

A 1-0 loss to Jose Mourinho’s Roma was a disappointing end to pre-season, but a victory over Rangers and an incredibly tight draw against Sevilla prove that there is some potential to come from the North London club if they can keep their momentum up.

Recent Head to Head

Head-to-head results in recent years significantly favour Chelsea. You have to go back as far as 2018 for a Spurs victory over the Stamford Bridge outfit in the league, with the last five results all going against Tottenham.

Not only have Chelsea won the past five matches, but the North London club have not scored a single goal against Chelsea in the league since February 2020. Both of last season’s matches saw the Blues dominate the Lilywhites, coming out on top in both possession, shots and, ultimately, goals.

Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur Prediction

In spite of previous events, Antonio Conte’s side has a good chance of breaking their duck. Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-Min had an incredible performance against the Saints in the season opener, with Harry Kane always having the potential to perform.

Thomas Tuchel’s men, on the other hand, had a relative overperformance at Goodison Park. The lack of control in midfield means that Spurs have the potential to exploit Chelsea’s weaknesses at Stamford Bridge, and with morale seemingly low at Cobham, scoring first could be the killer blow.

Conte sides are impeccable at shutting up shop when leading, which is an ideal tool for keeping leads in tight matches like this could be.

Current Odds: Chelsea vs Tottenham Hotspur

Contrary to the above prediction, the bookies have Chelsea as favourites at 5/4. Our prediction, a Spurs win, comes in at 21/10, with a draw the least favoured outcome at 12/5.
