McFred Benched: Manchester United Predicted Starting Lineup for Brentford Game on August 13

Manchester United predicted starting lineup

Manchester United will head to the Gtech Community Stadium to face Thomas Frank’s Brentford on Saturday, August 13. They are the final Premier League fixture of the evening and will kick off at 5.30 pm. United began their Premier League campaign with a lacklustre performance against Brighton & Hove Albion; they conceded two first-half goals and were only able to get on the scoresheet via an own goal from Alexis Mac Allister before losing the game 2-1. The side offered a dismal display and showed signs similar to those of last season when they finished sixth in the league. We at Last Word on Football have now predicted the Manchester United starting lineup for their forthcoming game in West London, taking into account some of the shocking offerings from various players who disappointed against Brighton last time out.

How Manchester United Have Lined-up Recently

Erik ten Hag deployed his squad in a 4-3-3 formation against Graham Potter’s side. David de Gea took his usual spot between the posts, behind a backline of Diogo Dalot, Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Luke Shaw. Scott McTominay, Fred and Bruno Fernandes picked up where they left off last season by holding the midfield, whilst new signing Christian Eriksen was utilised in a false nine role in between Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.

A defeat on opening day was the last thing Ten Hag had hoped for in his first competitive game in charge, and the team did little to prove their worth to the new head coach. He opted for a different formation to what was used in pre-season; in their final friendly against Rayo Vallecano on July 31, the Dutchman chose a 4-2-3-1 shape. He did, however, use fewer first-team options as he prepared the players for Brighton.

Against Atletico Madrid, Ten Hag utilised the same formation, and chose a strong starting eleven, including: De Gea, Dalot, Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Tyrell Malacia, McTominay, Fred, Anthony Elanga, Fernandes, Rashford and Anthony Martial as the main striker.

United oversaw eleven departures over the summer and said goodbye to the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani and more. They have only reinforced their squad with three signings since then: Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen and Tyrell Malacia.

Manchester United Injuries to Consider

Anthony Martial is yet to make an appearance in the league after netting three goals in pre-season, and the manager has confirmed he will miss the trip to West London with the same hamstring injury that kept him out of the Seagulls clash. Victor Lindelof will also miss another game through injury.

Ronaldo spent the first half on the bench before replacing Fred in the 52nd minute last Sunday. Ten Hag confirmed the Portuguese international was still building his fitness from his lack of training in pre-season compared to the rest of the squad, hence the forward not being a starting name on the team sheet.
