Luis Campos Targets Manchester United Leading Man to Bolster Paris Saint-Germain Attack

Marcus Rashford

Manchester United’s leading man Marcus Rashford is an attacking target for Paris Saint-Germain this summer as Luis Campos believes he is a player in the same profile as Kylian Mbappe. Journalist Santi Aouna confirmed on Twitter the seriousness of PSG’s interest and Rashford’s apparent willingness to venture into French football.

Manchester United Leading Man Marcus Rashford Wanted to Strengthen the PSG Attack

Rashford Wants Away

Last season saw Marcus Rashford play under three different managers as Manchester United struggled in the league. Not only that, but this turbulence came off the back of a Euro 2020 tournament to forget – not just for his penalty miss but for the abuse he suffered afterwards. During the season, Rashford only managed to score four goals and assist two in 25 league appearances, making it his joint worst return in a season for the club.

In the first game of this season, he faired no better as he missed a golden chance to help United rescue a point against Brighton & Hove Albion. All of these factors could be swaying Rashford’s decision to move away from the club he has been at for 17 years.

PSG in the Transfer Window So Far

So far in this transfer window, PSG have made four first-team signings in Vitinha, Renato Sanches, Nordi Mukiele, and made the loan of Nuno Mendes a permanent deal. Having not bought in an attacker so far and the loss of Angel Di Maria on a free transfer to Juventus would suggest the move for Marcus Rashford is one that makes sense for a side looking to win in Europe.

Whilst Rashford would not necessarily be a starter in the team as a result of the attacking talent of Neymar and Lionel Messi, Luis Campos thinks he is of a similar profile to Mbappe and therefore making him a perfect backup. Rashford is an explosive and skilful attacker like Mbappe, however, there are still some levels for him to go up before he can truly be compared to PSG’s number seven. But PSG may be the perfect place for him to learn that.

Erik Ten Hag Stands Firm

In response to speculation around Rashford’s potential exit, Erik ten Hag has made his feelings on the situation known, saying: “Rashford is really important, you have seen from the first day – I’m really happy with him and definitely don’t want to lose him”.

The manager’s strong stance in this situation whilst also being reassuring to Manchester United fans may also be reassuring for Rashford who now knows despite his poor form he is still a valued member of the squad.

Along with that, it would be extremely difficult to pry him away right now as Manchester United have no ready-made backup. Not only this but with Cristiano Ronaldo wanting away, Rashford wanting to leave would prove to be another added strain on the club.
