‘Here We Go!’: Manchester United Flop’s Loan to Be Confirmed This Week – Fabrizio Romano

Manchester United Left-Back Alex Telles

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester United left-back Alex Telles has agreed to join La Liga side Sevilla on a season-long loan. Contracts are being prepared and it is expected that the clubs will soon confirm the deal.

According to Romano, there is no option for Sevilla to make the deal permanent within the loan agreement.

Trading Manchester for Sevilla

Telles joined United from FC Porto for £12.5 million in the Summer of 2020. However, the Brazil international has struggled to carve out a consistent role in the first team since his arrival and has only managed 30 Premier League appearances in his two seasons at Old Trafford.

Previous Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brought the 29-year-old to the club for his attacking ability from the full-back position and to also challenge incumbent left-back Luke Shaw. Prior to joining the Red Devils, Telles enjoyed an excellent 2019/20 season in which he had 20 goal contributions for Porto in the Primeira Liga, including 11 goals.

Sadly those numbers have not followed Telles to Manchester as he has only managed to score once and assist eight times in all competitions during his two seasons at Old Trafford. It seems that new manager Erik ten Hag has made the decision to move on from the Brazilian in favour of Shaw and new signing Tyrell Malacia

A change of scenery could be enough for Telles to reignite the excellent form that earned him a move to Manchester. However, at least for now, all signs are pointing towards the defender’s future being away from Old Trafford.

A Busy Summer for United

United have been busy rejuvenating their squad this summer following a disappointing 2021/22 season which saw them finish sixth in the Premier League missing out on Champions League football for the coming campaign.

In addition to Malacia, the club have signed veteran midfielder Christian Eriksen following his impressive half-season back in the Premier League with Brentford. Ten Hag has also brought defender Lisandro Martinez to Old Trafford from his former club Ajax in order to help shore up a defence that conceded 57 goals last season.

The club continue to be linked with Barcelona and former Ajax midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, however, it seems the Netherlands international is no closer to deciding whether he wants to leave.

With the 2022/23 season drawing closer, Ten Hag will be looking at ways to improve the squad to avoid the same disappointment that was felt at the club last season.
