Fifth Signing of the Summer

Garcia, who recently turned 24, is Manchester United Women’s fifth summer signing after Adriana Leon, Rachel Williams, Grace Clinton and Maya Le Tissier arrived this month.

Born in Barakaldo, the forward is an exciting proposition for the Red Devils. She scored 63 goals in 161 games for her previous employer, Athletic Club, spending six years in Bilbao.

Garcia was part of Spain’s Women’s Euros campaign, scoring in the 4-1 win over Finland in the group stage before playing no part in the 2-1 extra time loss to England.

The attacker has played over 30 games for Spain, scoring nine goals.

She joins up with her international teammate Ona Batlle at United. Batlle has been at the club since 2020, when signed by former head coach Casey Stoney, and has been a resounding success.

‘Dream Come True’ Says Lucia Garcia

Upon signing for Manchester United, Garcia told manutd.com: “The fact that a club the size of Manchester United has put their faith in me is a dream come true.

“I already feel very much at home here. There’s a great family atmosphere at the club, which is the exact environment in which I thrive.

“I will give everything I have on the field to make our fans proud, and hopefully score a few goals as well!”

Manchester United continue to pursue a place in the Women’s Champions League having missed out once again last season.

Head coach Marc Skinner told the club website: “We are delighted to sign Lucia to Manchester United Women. Her addition shows the continuing commitment to our team’s progression.

“Lucia possesses wonderful agility and the one v one abilities that will be exciting to our fans and the league.

“We now look forward to embedding her into the squad over pre-season.”

In other United Women news, Carrie Jones and Tara Bourne left the club on loan over the past week, joining Leicester City and Birmingham City, respectively.
