Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: No Transfer News and Pre-Season Results

Oxford United

Another week has passed in which Oxford United have failed to make any new additions to their squad ahead of the new campaign. On the field, Karl Robinson’s side saw two wins against non-league opposition but suffered their first loss of pre-season with defeat against Coventry City.

Oxford United Weekly Round-Up: No New Signings and Pre-Season Results

Young U’s Win at Hungerford

A young Oxford side continued the club’s 100 per cent winning record in pre-season friendlies with a 2-1 win at Hungerford Town.

Trialist Jodi Jones made an impact for the U’s, assisting Oisin Smyth’s first Oxford goal with a header from a corner.

The hosts scored immediately after the restart but young Thai attacker Ben Davis curled home the winner from 25 yards on the hour.

Second Win of the Week Against the Spitfires

A more senior side was selected against National League outfit Eastleigh and they soared past the Spitfires.

A brace from Marcus Browne, a strike from Steve Seddon, a Cameron Brannagan penalty and a long-range effort from Jones sealed a comfortable 5-1 victory.

First Defeat Inflicted by Sky Blues

On Saturday, Oxford suffered their first defeat in pre-season with a 2-0 loss at home to Coventry City.

Defender Jonathan Panzo netted twice for the visitors on either side of halftime.

The U’s have seen off non-league opposition so far but struggled against their Championship opponents, with Jerome Sinclair coming the closest when his early effort struck the post.

Robinson Reacts to Coventry Defeat

Speaking to the Oxford Mail, U’s boss Karl Robinson said: “I don’t think we got blown away, I thought it was a very even game.

“It was just two set-plays, which we start working on on Monday.
