Jack Clarke Close to Sealing Permanent Deal

According to reports, Sunderland look set to add Tottenham winger Clarke to their squad on a permanent basis. Reports by Phil Smith of the Sunderland Echo, Michael Bridge of Sky Sports and James Hunter of the Chronicle suggest that the deal is almost done. The 21-year-old, should he sign is expected to fly out to Portugal to meet up with his teammates as they prepare for the new season with two friendlies.

Clarke enjoyed a successful loan spell on Wearside last season despite playing in an unfamiliar wing-back role for much of the time. Several impressive performances followed a slow start at the Stadium of Light as he found match fitness and confidence.

Clarke played an important role in helping the club achieve promotion via the playoffs. His most vital contribution came in the semi-final second leg at Sheffield Wednesday where he provided the assist for Sunderland’s late equaliser to send the Black cats to Wembley.

Clarke would be Sunderland’s second summer signing following the arrival of defender Dan Ballard from Arsenal.

Manchester City Winger Wanted

The Sunderland Echo‘s Richard Mennear has reported that the club are among three Championship sides interested in Manchester City winger Marlos Moreno. However, it is yet unknown whether the deal would be a loan or a permanent one.

Should Alex Neil wish to add Moreno to his squad he could face competition from Bristol City and Norwich City.

Signed by Manchester City in 2016 for £5 million from Atletico Nacional, Moreno has failed to make a first-team appearance at the current Premier League champions. However, the 25-year-old has had several loan spells in a bid to aid his development.

Moreno has spent time at Spanish sides Deportivo La Coruna and Girona, as well as spells in Belgium Brazil, Mexico and Portugal.

Belgian journalist Sven Claes spoke to ManCity.com regarding his time at Lommel SK. He said: “In my opinion he was the best player of the league.

“He played some wonderful games, he started playing every week and had a lot of minutes and no injuries which is very important for players like that also mentally.

“He’s really a winger who takes on a full-back, sometimes he really embarrassed them.”
