Fulham On Verge of Signing Portuguese International Midfielder for Around £19 Million

Joao Palhinha

Despite a frustrating transfer window thus far, according to Fabrizio Romano, Fulham target Joao Palhinha has completed the first part of his medical at the Premier League club.

The Portuguese international now just needs to sign the contract on offer and then he will be unveiled as a Fulham player. The fee agreed upon between both clubs has been set at around £19 million, including add-ons.

Joao Palhinha: Sporting Lisbon Star Nears Completion of His Transfer to Fulham

Palhinha to Bolster Fulham

Sporting Lisbon’s star midfielder Palhinha is one step closer to his move to the Premier League after passing a medical at Fulham.

The transfer has been delayed due to a dispute by agents over the commission split in the transfer. This issue has seemingly been resolved, with the Sporting Lisbon midfielder on the verge of becoming a Fulham player.

During recent stints in the Premier League Fulham have struggled defensively and will be keen to protect their defence this coming season. Their manager Marco Silva has identified the Portuguese international as a priority signing due to his effectiveness as a defensive midfielder.

Palhinha was instrumental in helping Sporting Lisbon win the Primeira Liga in the 2020/21 season. His departure from the Estadio Jose Alvalade will leave a huge void in Ruben Amorim’s midfield, but will significantly improve Marco Silva’s midfield at Craven Cottage.

Palhinha should have no issues adapting to the more physical nature of football in England. During his two seasons in Lisbon, they had the best defence, conceding only 42 goals. He showed his desire to win the ball back and protect the defence on countless occasions while in Portugal.

He breaks the play up well with his tackling and superb reading of the game. He makes himself available and recycles the ball effectively which will be a key outlet for the defence. With Champions League experience, he brings a strong mentality and pedigree to Fulham which will be vital in their hopes for survival.

The West London side have been somewhat of a yo-yo club in recent seasons from the Premier League to the Championship, but adding a player of Palhinha’s quality will aid Marco Silva’s team in their hopes for survival.
