Barcelona Reportedly Closing In on Two Massive Free Agents

Barcelona

According to a report from Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona are close to announcing the signings of two high-profile free agents.

Romano’s tweet reads: “Both Franck Kessié and Andreas Christensen have all paperworks signed with Barcelona, contract are ready – Barça told them and agents weeks ago that there will be no issue.

Just a matter of time for the official statements.”

Barcelona Ready to Announce Kessie and Christensen

Franck Kessie

Former AC Milan man Kessie is set to join the Spanish giants to help reinforce their midfield. Kessie has played for the current Serie A holders since 2017 but only made the move official in 2019. Across five seasons with the club, the Ivorian midfielder made 224 appearances with 39 goals to his name. The 25-year-old is now set to make the move across Europe to one of the biggest teams on the continent.

Andreas Christensen

This is a move that most have been waiting on. Once it was announced that the Danish defender wasn’t re-signing with Chelsea it became a situation of when, rather than if, he would be announced as a new Barcelona player.

Christensen was one of a number of Chelsea defenders that the Catalan side targeted this summer, with Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso also fielding interest from the five-time Champions League winners.

Although the 26-year-old took some time to establish himself as a regular at the London side, he made 161 appearances for the club’s senior team after being promoted from the academy.

Potential Frenkie de Jong Knock-On Effect

Barcelona’s money issues are well known at this stage with the club dealing with huge unpaid debts. To complete signings like this, the club will have to make funds available to pay the salaries of both players, this could see the negotiations for De Jong speed up as the Spanish side look to cash in on the midfielder and start getting players in the door in this window.
