Reece James At Chelsea

Since Thomas Tuchel took over from Frank Lampard in January 2021, right-back Reece James has consistently been one of his most stand-out players.

As a result of fine displays and mature performances, other clubs have targeted the England international for a long-term transfer.

And despite having three years remaining on his £70,000 per week contract, Todd Boehly is looking to make a personal intervention to ease the defender into a new deal.

The 22-year-old scored five times and laid on nine assists from just 26 Premier League appearances this season. The defender has played 123 times for thee Blues since making his breakthrough in 2019.

During his time at Stamford Bridge, James has won the Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup. The defender has also come as runner-up in the FA Cup in the last three seasons, as well as losing out to Liverpool in this season’s Carabao Cup final.

What A New Deal Would Look Like for the Chelsea Defender

Mokbel reports that formal discussions are yet to get underway and may be put on hold until the summer transfer window has been completed. That said, talks of a new contract would put the England youngster amongst the club’s highest earners.

A new deal would also cast a doubt over a potential future move to Manchester City or Real Madrid, with his transfer value rocketing due to his increased wages.
