Dean Henderson Transfer Update Emerges Amid Loan Talk

No Discussions Had Over Option to Buy

Forest have received a transfer blow in their pursuit of United shot-stopper Dean Henderson after reports have emerged from The Athletic claiming that no discussions have been held over an option to buy.

Such a claim has huge implications for Forest given they also want to sign midfielder James Garner on loan from the Reds this summer. They cannot look after both on a temporary basis due to Premier League rules; they could, however, if one had an “obligation to buy” clause in their deal.

Henderson, 25, is a target for Forest as boss Steve Cooper looks to build a squad capable of competing in the top flight for the first time in 23 years. The Reds beat Huddersfield Town 1-0 at Wembley in the Championship play-off final back in May but have yet to make any signings this summer.

The United shot-stopper will be used to having to fight against possible relegation having experienced that whilst on-loan with Sheffield United during the 2019/20 campaign.

A new goalkeeper is on Cooper’s ever-growing list of priorities after first-choice shot-stopper Brice Samba turned down a new deal. The 28-year-old is a target for French outfit Lens after rejecting the Reds’ contract offer, meaning the Reds must explore alternative options.

Samba’s contract rejection came as a surprise to Forest fans given his popularity and status on the terraces. The former Caen ‘keeper has been at the City Ground since the summer of 2019 and has made more than 100 appearances for the Reds, including 45 across all competitions last term. Forest remain determined to tie him down to a new deal.
