Inter Milan Romelu Lukaku Reunion Heats Up

Igniting a Flame

It’s been an interesting career for Lukaku. He joined Chelsea for the first time in 2011 but then spent time away from the club. He eventually moved to Everton, succeeded, then moved to Manchester United. After a brief tenure with United, Lukaku made his move to Inter in 2019 for a club-record fee of €80 million.

His first season with Inter was a success, scoring 23 goals and providing two assists in 36 league matches. The following season, 2020/21, was even better. Lukaku scored 24 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 matches. More than that, Lukaku guided Inter to a Serie A title. He also scored four goals in five Champions League matches. He looked like he was back at the top of his game.

Chelsea liked what they saw, and wanted Lukaku back. They paid Inter a reported £97.5 million for the player’s return. Lukaku, however, did not live up to expectations, scoring eight goals in 26 Premier League appearances.

It was a disappointing return to Chelsea, but now Lukaku wants to return to Inter. It makes sense for both the player and club. They saw massive success together and both fell without each other. Lukaku didn’t perform well, whereas Inter lost the Serie A title to city rivals AC Milan.

Lukaku will surely be inspired with this return and the 2022 World Cup awaiting in a few months.
