Barcelona Targeting Brazilian Striker Who Is Already Wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal

Barcelona target Brazilian striker

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is subject to a lot of interest this summer as it is well-known that the forward wants a move away from the club. Arsenal were considered favourites to complete the signing of Jesus but recent reports indicate that Chelsea also want a seat at the negotiating table. Oriol Domenech is now reporting that Barcelona will target the Brazilian striker if their move for Robert Lewandowski falls through.

Barcelona Target Brazilian Striker Gabriel Jesus as Lewandowski Alternative

Gabriel Jesus in Demand

Manchester City splashed huge money to sign Erling Haaland this summer which has led to Gabriel Jesus becoming surplus to requirements. The 25-year-old will not be short of suitors as he has impressed during his time with Manchester City, hitting double digits in goals in every single full season with the club.

With a scoring output of 95 goals in 236 games, it’s no wonder so many clubs are eyeing up a move for someone that’s a proven goalscorer in the Premier League.

Potential Domino Effect

For Barcelona to enter the race a number of dominos will have to fall into place. Their current target is Robert Lewandowski, who wants a move to Barcelona. If a move for Lewandowski can’t be pulled off then things become complicated for Barcelona.

Barcelona will need to raise funds in order to compete with the offers made by  Chelsea and Arsenal; to do this the club may speed up Frenkie de Jong’s move to Manchester United which is currently in its early stages with Barcelona reportedly rejecting an opening bid of roughly 60 million euros.

The race for Gabriel Jesus is likely going to come down to Chelsea and Arsenal. Even this deal relies on Romelu Lukaku making a move back to Inter Milan, for Barcelona he is just an alternative option if their top choice is unavailable. But, there are definite questions over whether the club could even afford to buy Jesus.
