Chelsea Join Race for Wantaway Manchester City Forward

Arsenal are seemingly in the lead position to secure the signing of Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus but recent reports indicate that Chelsea are also showing interest in the striker. The Athletic issued an update on Arsenal transfers and mentioned that the North London club are now facing competition from Chelsea for the signature of Jesus.

Jesus Seeking a Move

It’s been known for some time that Jesus is aiming to make a move away from Manchester City. The club splashed huge money to sign Erling Haaland and Jesus saw his chance at being City’s first-choice striker go out the window. The 25-year-old will not be short of suitors as he has impressed during his time with Manchester City, hitting double digits in goals in every single full season with the club. With a scoring output of 95 goals in 236 games, it’s no wonder so many clubs are showing interest in the talented striker.

Romelu Lukaku Replacement

Much like Jesus, Romelu Lukaku has been angling for a move this summer. The Belgian striker only scored 15 goals in his return season at Chelsea, falling short of the expectations that came with his mammoth price tag. It appears that Lukaku is now trying to force a move back to Inter Milan just a year after leaving. For Inter, Lukaku’s goal scoring output was an impressive 64 goals in 95 games and he would be hoping to reach that level again upon his return.

If Lukaku does leave then Jesus would be an excellent replacement from Chelsea, Jesus seems more likely to fit into Thomas Tuchel’s system and would likely work well with Chelsea’s attacking players like Kai Havertz and Mason Mount whereas Lukaku’s link-up play left a lot to be desired all season long.
