21-Year-Old Young Player of the Year Winner Provides Major Update on Arsenal Future

Young player of the year winner

Ligue 1’s 2021/22 Young Player of the Year winner William Saliba, has claimed his love for Arsenal in a recent interview. The 21-year-old defender has spent most of his time since moving to the Emirates on loan in France, but he is keen to prove to the Gunners’ fans that he can still be of value to the North London side. His future, however, is uncertain, with Football.london reporting transfer interest from his home country. Arsenal could still sell him.

Open to Arsenal Stay Despite Uncertain Future

In an interview with Telefoot, the youngster provided a major update on his future: “I belong to Arsenal, I still have two years left. I will be back with Arsenal.

“I have played 0 matches and I still want to show them that I can play for these fans and this great club”.

This comes after his previous insistence that he does not know where his future lies, especially after having enjoyed a successful loan spell with Marseille during the 2021/22 campaign.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has also weighed in on the situation, saying that he would like to have Saliba back at the Emirates as he has the experience to compete within the squad.

The most important thing for the 21-year-old Frenchman is first-team football. This is why he has spent so long away from North London in recent years, and why his future with Arsenal remains all but certain.

With Gabriel and Ben White, who joined last summer for £50 million, having become the established central-defensive duo over the last year, it will not be easy for Saliba to break into Arteta’s starting 11. That said, the Spanish manager has a reputation for favouring inexperienced players in his lineups, with Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith Rowe among the many young stars to have broken out under his leadership.
